“Samoan Wedding” also known as “Sione’s Wedding” was enjoyable and filled with a lot of humor. This movie was based on 4 best friends, Micheal, Albert, Stanley, and Sefa, or the dock rockers as they liked to call their click. Micheal was the ladies man, Albert the good boy, Stanley the dreamer and Sefa was known as the party guy. All four friends have a bad reputation of crashing or causing chaos at parties that they attend. They get banned from one of their good friend, Sione’s wedding because of their behavior. They beg Sione to give them a chance promising they will behave. Sione then issues them an ultimatum saying that each of them needs to attend the wedding with a date and not just any girl but a real girlfriend that is committed. Throughout the movie, they get frustrated trying to find a real girl who will seize the good in them. In the end, all four friends end up finding real girls to take to the wedding. They all enjoy themselves and their dates at the wedding without causing any ruckus for the first time.
People spoke English with a hint of a New Zealand accent throughout the majority of the movie. Sometimes they spoke with such a heavy accent that I couldn’t understand some words. The only time Samoan was heard was throughout songs that were sung at church and the reception. I also noticed that there were some words in Samoan that were used as slang. The traditional garments and dances that were done in Sione’s wedding reminded me of the Poly Fest. It was funny when the Caucasian co-worker tried to speak in Samoan calling Albert “Sole” as an effort of trying to fit into the community. Albert then snaps back saying “Speak your own language”. Overall I enjoyed watching “Samoan Wedding” which captured the Samoan culture. I would recommend this movie to you all.
