“Samoan Wedding” or “Sione’s Wedding,” was a very funny and entertaining movie to watch. This comedic film was based on four best friends: Michael, Albert, Stanley, and Sefa. They all were very immature and had a bad reputation because of their behaviors. They would get drunk, chase the wrong women, and always caused trouble at every wedding they attended. As a result of this, the minister of their church banned them from any future weddings. However, after finding out that Michael’s younger brother Sione is getting married, they all realized that they had to change. The three brothers begged Sione to give them a chance and promised that they would shape up. Sione told them that they were allowed to come to his wedding only if they find girlfriends, but not just any girls, ones that they could have serious relationships with. While the boys thought it was going to be an easy plan, they soon realized that finding a girlfriend wasn’t as easy as it looked. They had a difficult time finding girls because the girls knew about their immature behaviors. But at the end of the movie, they end up finding real girls to take to Sione’s wedding.
In the movie, I noticed that Samoan language was very limited. Most of the actors spoke English with a New Zealand accent. I would only hear Samoan words thrown out hear and there, such as the slangs. The only time I really heard Samoan was throughout the songs that sung were at the church and the wedding reception. Although “Samoan’s Wedding” was not immersed in the Samoan language, it was a really good movie that captured the essence of Samoan culture.
