LiC Hawaii And the Balkin States
This presentation was about the process that the Balkin states went through in order to end Russian occupation, and how Hawaii could possibly do the same to The United States. The lecture discussed the similarities between the Balkins and Hawaii as sovereign nations that were recognized by free nations around the world. Neither the occupation of the Balkins or Hawaii was ever legal. The Lecturer covered 5 steps that the Balkin states followed to reclaim sovereignty. 1.Consolidation of issues, 2.Creation of mass-political groups, 3.Political leaders initiate change in larger structures, 4.Registration of electorate, and 5.Election of new Parliament. The lecturer suggested that if Hawaii followed the 5 steps, it may one day regain its sovereignty. I related this lecture to the lectures in class about occupation and the effect on the occupied peoples language. Occupation of the Balkins shifted language to Russian, and occupation of Hawaii shifted language to a focus on English. I found the similarities to the Balkins and Hawaii to be surprising and informative. Hawaii needs to keep taking the proper steps in righting the injustice that is the wrongful occupation of Hawaiian lands by The United States
